ASUP Ede chapter comply with NEC’s resolution, directs members to resume


Following the suspension of strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) on Wednesday, the Federal polytechnic Ede chapter have complied fully with the resolution of the National Executive council of the union.

REPUBLICAN NIGERIA recall that the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) resolved to suspend its 65-day-old industrial action with effect from Thursday, June 10.

The suspension is for a period of three months to enable the government complete the execution of the items contained in the Memorandum of Action signed with the Union since 27th April, 2021 as contained in a statement by Comrade Abdullahi Yalwa, National Publicity Secretary of ASUP.

Reacting to the development, the Federal polytechnic Ede chapter on Wednesday in a statement released by its General Secretary, Etudaiye A.I and sighted by REPUBLICAN NIGERIA directed its members to resume work tomorrow, Thursday 10th June 2021.

The statement however, commended all academic staff in the school for complying and sustaining the tempo while the strike was on.

It would be recalled that before the strike action, since the school opened for the first semester of 2019/2020 academic session, their lecturers had not been attending classes due to the crises between the management and members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Federal Polytechnic, Ede chapter had passed a “vote of no confidence” on the Rector of the institution, Dr. John Adekolawole, who has been indicted for alleged corruption, maladministration.

The union under the immediate leadership led by Comrade Nurudeen Masopa had in December last year passed a vote of no-confidence on the embattled rector and asked the federal government to suspend him over the allegations, these and several other elements has since grounded academic activities in the school before the nationwide strike.

Meanwhile, REPUBLICAN NIGERIA gathered that Ede Polytechnic ASUP had on 25th of May unanimously elected new executives to pilot the affair of the academic staff union, Barrister Azeez I.O defeated Comrade Ojo O.A 199 to 171 to emerged the new chairman, sending the incumbent, Com Nurudeen Masopa packing out of office.
