The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has commended the efforts of Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as he received the Award of Excellence as the leading governor in the country, in the areas of infrastructure and education.
The event took place at the Executive Hall of International Conference Centre, Abuja on Monday.
In attendance were also governors, National Assembly members and foreign diplomats, among other dignitaries.
Members of the House of Representatives Press Corps said they had studied how states were doing in the areas of infrastructure and educational development.
“The investigation shows that Kano State, under Governor Ganduje, is the leading state in the identified category.”
Speaker Gbajabiamila, during presentation of the award to Ganduje said the award to the governor was well deserved.
“Congratulations. This is well-deserved. I appreciate you and I commend you,” the Speaker said.
After thanking the organisers for finding him worthy of the award, the governor said: “The award is very encouraging. And I assure you we will continue to provide good governance in our respective states.
“In the area of education, we have a policy of free and compulsory education from primary up to secondary school level. This is put in place in order to make education accessible, affordable and sustainable.
“But because of the time constraints I cannot have enough time to tell you what we did in the areas of manpower development in the overall education sector. So also how we made the terrain at all stages of education in the state to be hitch-free and crisis-free,” he said.
He said: “In the area of infrastructural development, we were able to review Kano Master Plan. We examined various challenges that militate against megacities. Issues of traffic jams, issues of security among many other issues. I assure you we have done our best and we are transforming Kano into a megacity.”
