Thomas Tuchel, Rooney, Son reacts to sack of Mourinho by Tottenham

Chelsea boss, Thomas Tuchel has reacted to Tottenham’s decision to sack Jose Mourinho as their manager.

Tuchel said he was ‘surprised by the decision to sack Mourinho and says he “did not see it coming.”

Mourinho was relieved of his job on Monday with the club seventh in the Premier League having endured a difficult season all along.

The north London side faces Manchester City in the EFL Cup final on Sunday.

“More or less I’m always a bit surprised when it happens [a managerial sack],” Tuchel told the press when asked about Mourinho’s departure.

“We’re all competitors and we all try to beat each other but in the end, we wish every manager has a good atmosphere and is in a good state and place to work.

“It never feels good as another manager when someone is sacked but it’s not my job to comment on that. It is what it is.

“Everybody fights hard for results and when a big decision comes like this, it was a surprise. I honestly didn’t see it coming.”

Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Tottenham manager in November 2019, signing a four-year contract with the club.

Pochettino on the other hand has guided Paris Saint-Germain to the semi-finals of the Champions League this season where they will face Pep Guardiola Manchester City side.

Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney has also described Tottenham’s decision to sack their manager, Jose Mourinho as “crazy”.

Rooney, who worked with Mourinho at Manchester United, believes Tottenham manager should have delayed their decision.

“I think it’s crazy doing it before a [Carabao] Cup final. It’s strange timing, anyway, before a cup final.

“I’m sure they could have waited until after the cup final if that’s the direction they want to go in.

“Jose’s a fantastic manager, one of the best managers the game has seen. I am sure he will bounce back and a lot of top clubs out there looking to bring him in.”

Also, Tottenham forward Son Heung-min has sent a message to Jose Mourinho, saying he was sorry after the Portuguese was axed on Monday.

Sharing a picture of the two enjoying a tender moment, Son wrote on Instagram: “I have no words to describe how I’m feeling.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with you. I’m sorry things didn’t work out and truly grateful for the time we’ve had together.

“Good luck and all the best for the future.”
